Five letters from Susan Blanchard of Greenville, Ill., to Mary S. (Mrs. Samuel) Whitcomb of Cohasset, Mass. The letters date from the early years of Illinois statehood and convey routine news such as births, deaths, illnesses, travels of local residents, where neighbors are living, and the sale of property or merchandise. There are several references to events in Vandalia, the state capital, and to the outcomes of state elections or the appointment of local officials.
